Great post. The culture in the US promotes tipping so you have to get comfortable with it. I just returned from two blissful non-tipping weeks in Japan. But I still overall prefer vacationing in the US, tips and all. One benefit of tipping is that people who can afford it can pay more, and I take advantage of that, knowing that if my financial circumstances worsen, I can always stop tipping and still get the service.
