I vividly remember being 17 and getting into a political argument with my father. I was certain at that time that I was smarter than him. In fact, that was as smart as I’ve ever been. Then reality began to set in.
When challenging conventional (or parental) wisdom over the years, I’d guess I was right about 5% of the time. But that 5% is how we move forward, as long as the 95% isn’t things that could kill us. That, unfortunately, is a distinct possibility, between AI, nuclear oblivion, and genetic misengineering. Sure makes this progress thing interesting don’t it?
