The most common dog whistle, and I was totally unaware of its origin until it was pointed out to me, is the term “urban music”, created by studios to identify black musicians without using the word. The only solution is education, people who aren’t racist (less racist?) aren’t propagating the dog whistles on purpose, which is why they’re so insidiously effective.
