What is the Most Important Step a Person Can Take?

A good answer is ‘the first one’, but it’s not the best answer

I’m at a bit of a career crossroads. It’s not the first time and may not even be the last, although I’m 58 years young and this shit is starting to feel old. Isn’t my life purpose or whatever something I should have figured out by now?

So I’m trying to figure out what’s next. What’s my move? I’ve done a lot of things, many I never thought I’d achieve, for better or worse. I’ve gone bankrupt. I’ve sold a company and made more money than I can reasonably spend. I’ve been a venture capitalist, gave away millions as a philanthropist, produced a documentary, and for a hot minute I was even a professional poker player.

I’ve covered a lot of ground and it’s difficult now to figure out whether there’s something in my past I should explore again, or try something completely new. I’ve loved aspects of everything I’ve ever tried, but none of them really clicked, not even entrepreneurship, which I’ve had a tiny bit of success with.

I thought to myself a couple of months ago, what do I really enjoy? And one answer that came back to me was that I enjoyed writing. Earlier in life I got it into my head that I wanted to see an article of mine in a magazine. It took a lot of learning and sending…
